Despite overwhelming Idaho voter support for Medicaid Expansion, we're still fighting to be sure our legislators implement the law that will protect those who have fallen into the Medicaid Gap. This month's Political Soup will be held on January 9, 2019 from 11:30am to 1pm at the Elks Lodge in Pocatello. Join Stephen Weeg, a 40-year veteran of Idaho's healthcare industry, as he shares important information on the basics of expansion, implementation processes, and what we need our lawmakers to do to ensure the law is implemented as written.
After graduating from Idaho State University with a Master’s degree in Counseling, Stephen Weeg had a 40-year career in health and human services leadership in Idaho. In retirement, he is the Board Chair for Your Health Idaho, Idaho’s successful health insurance exchange, and also a Board member of the Portneuf Health Trust, Portneuf Medical Center, and the Idaho Community Foundation.
Over the last twenty years, he has been involved in a number of initiatives attempting to improve access to health insurance and health care for all Idahoans. Those include the 1998 State Uninsured Planning Grant, implementation of the Children’s Health Insurance Program, expansion of community health centers, rural hospital strategic planning, Chair of Gov. Otter’s Select Committee on Health Care, member of both Medicaid Expansion Work Groups, and an advocate for improved physical and behavioral health care for all.
We'll also be talking about the upcoming Medicaid Expansion Advocacy Day in Boise on Monday, February 4, 2019, and making plans to bring Pocatello to the rally. We'll also have postcards to send to our legislators and look forward to your perspectives!
